Mellitofix Met contains two active substances, empagliflozin and metformin. Each of them belongs to a group of medicines called “oral antidiabetic agents”. These are medicines that are taken by mouth to treat type 2 diabetes. Empagliflozin belongs to a group of medicines called glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. It works by blocking the SGLT2 protein in the kidneys. This causes blood sugar (glucose) to be removed in the urine. Metformin lowers blood sugar levels in a different way, mainly by blocking the production of glucose in the liver.

Mellitofix Met lowers the amount of sugar in the blood.
